Packaging standardization is important for third-party libraries on a programming language, as it allows users of those libraries to know where to look for the installed files.
These standardization guidelines include the following topics:
- Where to install binary libraries, pure-Lua libraries and loader scripts;
- The name that should be used for the initialization function of the library;
- Guidelines for the naming of the installed files;
- Usage of loader scripts and the default loader.
The guidelines have been [discussed] on the [Lua-l] mailing list, and can be found [here].
